Hodaka 250

What is the desirability of Hodaka 250 dirt bikes? I spotted a matching pair recently at an outdoor bike junkyard/parts yard and was wondering about their relative value and collectibility. They both looked real clean but I know nothing about their mechanical condition, etc.

I really got a kick out of this one. Bought an 81 Virago parts bike and the guy said we had it running but it would only hit on one cylinder. It was rough so I am parting it. I took the carbs apart and they had put both run jets in the same carb and the idle jets in the other. Wonder if anyone else has ever done that. If you even switch the jets in the same carb it will idle but not run. I never thought of that problem before.Bill

Can anyone ID Honda tool kit? PLEASE

I have a Honda tool kit I'm trying to identify. Can anyone tell me what model motorcycle this was made for? The tools are marked HM and A. The vinyl roll bag is marked Honda and states - Tappet clearance - Inlet 0.03mm, Exhaust 0.03mm. Here are a few photos, hope they are close enough. Thank You for any help.

Broke fin dilema

Recently bought a 1937 Flathead motor on Ebay. The crate it was shipped in was dropped by UPS. Suffered minor damage including broken sparkplugs ect. Two fins on each cylinder head were broken off. The pieces didn't make it back in the box. I am now filing a claim with UPS, since they picked up the crate wrong breaking sideboard and causing engine to hit hard surface and break off fins. These heads are cast iron; which in itself is a hard repair. Missing fins makes job more tedious. Question is: How much Is this damage? If I dispute their offer for value how do I back it up? PS...I paid some serious money for this engine so I'm not gonna just say," gee whiz, Wally; dats O K."

partial refund for item not as described?

hi all, i have a bit of a problem. i bought new cylinders from someone which he stated were "3 inches EXACTLY" with a dial caliper. after measuring them they are actually 10 thou over, which is obviously the first oversize. i fell i'm entitled to a partial refund on this. the guy i bought from insists he isn't responsible, and i'm having trouble being mean enough to actually file a dispute. i don't want to deal with returning the part, in fact i still want it, it's just not worth what i originally thought it was. any help? thanks. josh--

Hi folks -- I have this piece from a long-time Harley-Davidson collector, but I can't find anything about it. Specifically, what keywords to use to attract folks who may be interested. All items from this collector came from dealers, mostly one local dealer who is very reputable. It is a pewter sculpture tableau on a wooden base. On the front it reads, "Designing for the Future" and the medallion on front reads "Harley-Davidson University." It shows a man with a cap and gown, an organizational chart with the Dealer Principal in the middle (so thinking this was a dealer promo?), a file cabine that reads, "Plans for 200 and Beyond." On the back it reads, "limited Edition 1 of 2000" and is signed John A. Balistreri. It also has a date of 1999. Dealer promotion? Trophy? Award? Any help would be appreciated. sojo Things are going swimmingly, thank you for asking.

I have a replica of this Indian...I have not been able to tie it down to a year. Rear plate has "53" but it didn't look like same year when I tried to research. I couldn't find a sight when this logo Indian head was used and ran out of places to look without a clue to guide me. Sturgis group sues Kentucky biker event RAPID CITY, S.D. (AP) -- The Sturgis Chamber of Commerce has filed a court complaint in which it claims the organizers of a motorcycle rally in Sturgis, Ky., are infringing on the trademark of South Dakota's Sturgis motorcycle rally. Chamber officials said in the complaint filed in federal court here that they have organized, sponsored, marketed and promoted the rally, spending substantial sums of money, and that they are filing the complaint to protect the return on that investment. The complaint alleges the Kentucky group's use of the name "Little Sturgis Rally" constitutes trademark infringement, false designation of origin, unfair competition and deceptive trade practice. "The Sturgis Chamber of Commerce has long been on record that it intends to defend the rights of the Sturgis motorcycle rally in a continued effort to see it provide substantial benefits to the residents of Sturgis, S.D.," Sturgis chamber president Scott Reiman said in a statement. The chamber uses the proceeds from licensing the rally name and logos to support community and economic development projects, according to the complaint. Attendance at the weeklong rally last year was estimated at 507,000. Sturgis, Ky., is a town of about 2,000. Its 16th Annual Little Sturgis Rally and Races for Charity is planned for July at a county fairgrounds. The Kentucky rally brings in about 20,000 people a year and has raised about $2 million for various charities since it began, Little Sturgis Rally board president Billy House said Thursday. He said he was not aware of the lawsuit when contacted by the Rapid City Journal. "I don't see what's the problem, myself," he told the newspaper. He said he does not think the Kentucky rally benefits from any perceived affiliation with the South Dakota rally. "Personally, I do not, no," he said. "There's other rallies that's a whole lot bigger than us, and they're not using the Sturgis name." In 2002, the South Dakota group successfully challenged an application for a federal trademark registration of "Little Sturgis Rally." Selling to a member with a "ding" for not paying for a motorcycle

I have a bidder who has one negative on his record for not paying for a motorcycle after he was the winning bidder. I contacted the original seller and asked why and was told that the party claimed they were waiting for wired money from overseas. Does anyone have any ideas on how to protect myself from that if this bidder should win the auction. Should I raise the reserve? Is that even ethical to do in the eBay community? Ideas please. Thanks.

(AP) -- Instead of going to trial, attorneys will try again to reach a settlement in the wrongful death lawsuit stemming from a fatal crash caused by former South Dakota Rep. Bill Janklow. Randy Scott of Hardwick, Minn., was killed Aug. 16, 2003, when his Harley-Davidson hit the back of the Cadillac that Janklow drove through a stop sign at an intersection near Trent. Scott was killed instantly. Janklow was injured. Scott's family sued the United States for $25 million after the U.S. attorney in Minnesota concluded Janklow was on official business at the time of the crash, which makes the federal government responsible for any damages. Both sides met last month for nearly three hours in Minneapolis but couldn't resolve it so the case was headed to trial before a judge. Another settlement conference has since been scheduled for May 13. Lawyers who have the authority to settle the case are to be present, according to the court document outlining the change. The defense lawyer did not respond to a request for comment. A spokesman for the U.S. Attorney's office in Minneapolis said federal prosecutors could not comment. Janklow, who has returned to private practice as a lawyer, was a dominating force in South Dakota politics for 30 years. After serving as attorney general, the Republican was governor for 16 years, serving four terms in two separate eight-year stints. In 2002, he was elected as South Dakota's lone member of the U.S. House. Janklow has diabetes and testified he had not eaten the day of the accident and likely blacked out when he approached the intersection. A jury in his boyhood home of Flandreau convicted him of second-degree manslaughter in December 2003. He resigned from Congress a month later, served 100 days in jail, paid a $5,000 fine, temporarily lost his law license and was forbidden from driving during his probation. He finished his sentence in the Minnehaha County Jail in May 2004. His three-year probation ended Jan. 22, 2007. Because Janklow was given a suspended imposition of sentence, his criminal record was cleared.

Recently got a 44 HD Springer front end. After taking apart, I noticed outer Springs(which were chromed) were slightly pitted and flaking in some spots. Can these springs be wirebrushed and sanded; and then, Parkerised. Is there an easy to use home dip to remove the chrome plating? Advise welcomed.

1979 Yamaha XS 650 coil problem

Hi folks, my XS is only firing on one side. I swapped the coils around and it fired on the other side so I figure the system is ok up to the coils. I have good wires and new NGK plug caps.I can switch the wires around with no change so I figure they're ok. Is there any way to test one with a multi-meter or would it be best to let a dealer do it? kx 250 kickstarter

I have an 87 Kawasaki KX250. I am having problems with my kickstarter. It doesn't seem to be "cathing" any of the gears. I can move the lever up and down with my hand, I only receive resistance "compression stroke", every once in a while. Did I install the kickstarter incorrectly? What is going on inside that would cause the kickstarter to rotate, but not seem to engage the gears inside to turn the bike over?

(AP) -- Two Hells Angels bikers charged with starting a gunfight acted in self defense because rival Outlaws Motorcycle Club members targeted them, lawyers for the men say. Chad Wilson, 32, of Lynnwood, Wash., and John Midmore, 34, of Valparaiso, Ind., are accused of shooting at Outlaws bikers Aug. 8, 2006, at Legion Lake Resort in Custer State Park, where the Outlaws gathered for the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally 70 miles away. According to a federal court document, an Outlaws member who was not wounded said he returned fire at the man who shot at his group. Wilson is a member of the Dago Chapter of the Hells Angels motorcycle club in San Diego and Midmore is a prospect of the Haney Chapter of the Hells Angels in British Columbia, Canada, according to court documents. Both men are charged with multiple counts, including conspiracy, aiding and abetting, and commission of a felony while armed. Wilson also is charged with five counts of attempted first-degree murder. The five Outlaws who were shot are Thomas Hass, Al Mathews, Danny Neace, Claudia Wables and Susan Evans-Martin. Another woman, Crystal Schuster, suffered injuries unrelated to a gunshot. Their addresses were not included in court documents. Wilson and Midmore are being held without bond at the county jail in Rapid City. Their trial in Custer has been delayed several times, most recently because of an appeal to the state Supreme Court. The men's federal court filing in Rapid City for an injunction and declaratory judgment is against 19 defendants, including various federal agencies, officials and the federal government. Lawyers want a judge to prevent the defendants from withholding information that could help their case. State prosecutors plan to argue that an ongoing feud between the two clubs was the motive for Wilson and Midmore to fire on the Outlaws, they wrote. "Defendants believe that the converse is true. In fact, the acrimonious relationship led to the ambush of defendants and that these actions were in self defense," Hells Angels lawyers wrote in the court document. As Wilson and Midmore tried to leave the resort, several Outlaws members attacked them, so they fled to save their lives, the document states. They felt they were in danger because of information law officers told them before they came to the state stemming from past conflicts and the fact that all Outlaws members were required to attend the 2006 Sturgis rally, according to the court document. Government surveillance and information from informants inside both organizations predicted the Outlaws planned attacks on Hells Angels at Cody, Wyo., in July 2006 and Sturgis in August 2006, but the government agencies and officials have repeatedly refused to turn over videos, photos and other such evidence, the Hells Angels lawyers wrote. "The Outlaws surveillance information gathered with respect to Outlaws members and affiliates planned attacks against Hells Angels is relevant and necessary to show the motivation behind the Outlaws ambush of Mr. Wilson and Mr. Midmore and to prove that the Outlaws, not Mr. Wilson and Mr. Midmore, were the aggressors in the Legion Lake incident," the document states. Hells Angels attorneys also argue that the indictments of several other Outlaws, including some who were shot at Custer, prove the organization was carrying out attacks on Hells Angels members and that information was gathered before the Custer shooting. The U.S. attorney for South Dakota said he couldn't comment. Michael Moore of Huron, one of the state prosecutors handling the case, said that to his knowledge, the evidence the defendants seek doesn't exist.

TITLE v. BILL OF SALE TRAPS

you've seen them NO TITLE but "will provide bill of sale" (usually for older bikes). yes, some states have registration only for bikes, others registration/transfer for older (10-15 yrs.) "in state" bikes. but if your considering an interstate transaction BIG YELLOW FLAG. In most cases/states I've checked lawful ownership (ergo; ability to register) WILL NOT travel to another state w/o title. here in florida it's even unlawful to sell a bike w/o a title (Ch. 319.34, F.S. 2007) as I told a florida seller(madmax4747)whose 1980 bike came from RI, had no title, but he assured "most states do not require a title". Seems to me this deserves clarification for the unwary stuck with a servicable, running but useless (roadwise) machine.

Spark plugs

I posted a topic a while back concerning a Yamaha XS 650 coil problem. I have since replaced the suspect coil and found the problem to be a spark plug. As stated in the previous post, I felt the ignition system, up to the coils, was working fine since I could switch the "good" coil over to the other side and get fire. It turns out that when I did that, I used the firing plug also. Not suspecting a plug problem at the time. Now back to the beginning...... I started out pulling the old mis-matched plugs to put in two of the same number. NGK B8ES. I had one brand new one and one with about 10 snowmobile miles on it. I had suspected a coil problem with the snowmobile as it would cut out on one side after a short time riding. Always the same side.I'd pull the plug and it would look fine(no fouling). Put in a new one and it would start and run fine for a while again. I suspected a weak coil that would quit when warmed. I kept the plugs as they were nearly new, not suspecting a plug problem. I used 3 of these on the one side of the XS after installing the new coil to no avail. I then took the plug from the other side and when I switched it to the "bad" side it fired fine. So, after this long winded post, I guess the question is: what would make these plugs go bad? Is the snowmobile somehow ruining them or are they bad to start with? Since the old firing plug was a B7ES, I bought 2 new ones and installed them and the bike runs great now. Anyone have any idea why these went bad?

I bought a harley AMF Speedometer on Ebay. It won't work on our harley so I want to re-sell it. My question is the picture of it showed the needle on 0 but when I got it the needle is on 50 mph. Is it broken? Is there a way to reset them with out hooking them up? Thanks

More leg room on shifter side?

I recently added forward controls on a 04 HD Dyna, The controls created a problem with side clearance on shifter side with air breather and added a 1 1/2" spacer made to control mount to help. This created a problem with scraping on right turns. Does anyone know an air breather that is shallower than stock. Thanks

I have a 1983 KZ1100 Spectre, need info from owners manual, can you help???

I have a 1983 KZ1100 Spectre, and I'm looking to find an owners manual for it. Can someone here help me out?? I've looked on E-bay and no luck. Alternatively, if someone out there has one they don't want to part with, I'd be willing to purchase a photocopy of yours from you. Mainly I'm looking to see what is the reccomended and maximum air pressures you can put in the air shocks so I don't damage them, and also how much oil it takes for an oil change. It would be nice to have it for all the other info in it too. Thanks for your help,

WTF on ebay motors NEW policy???

so the way Im seeing it with the NEW listing policies on cars/motorcycles (mainly motorcycles for us) "parts bikes" will basically be eliminated as we see them sell for $50-200 usually....the "winning auction flat fee of $125" KILLS ANY kind of profit!!! and what if it doesnt go for anymore then $100!!??? Riding in high winds

My wife got a few hours off of work Sun. afternoon.She says she wants to go to the Casino about 45mi.south of where we live near Pittsburgh. Looked at the weather radar,no rain in sight.The remains of Hurricane Ike where coming through Pa. It was windy but I thought no big deal.Things weren't too bad until we got on Interstate 79.Things got pretty hairy after that.I found out later wids gusting to 75 mph. The wind would slam me to left and then istantly slam me back to the right. Felt like the helmet was going to be ripped off of my head.It was white knuckles all the way there. Went 55 mi. per hour when there was traffic and 40 when there was none. A guy on a sport bike passed us at about 70 mph.he was laying down on his tank. We arrived safely and thought our problems were over,just stay there til the winds died down and ride back safely. My wife and I were sitting at slot machines when a security guard comes up to me and asked if I was Mike.I said yea and he says your motorcycle has been blown over in the parking lot.The only damage was to my helmet,it was destroyed. Moved it to a safer place and rode home after midnight. A crazy night.

1978 CB400T

Howdy Again... Well lets see.. my friend was wron wasn't a 1985 Honda Hawk or w/e, Finally when he Delivered the Bike After Taking off some stuff.. Noticed the thing it read 1978 Model LOL, So I got a 1978 CB400T Hawk... Gas Tank and muffler and all that stuff in Really Great shape.. Like new almost. Well If any of you are familiar with these or got any tips for the Following Would be Greatly Appreciated! 1. No Spark (probaly check connection ometer etc.. Just can't a Wiring Diagram for the bike and what to check? Nor a Manual) 2. Electrical System Works Cept Turning Signal Doesn't Blink... Have no clue for their 3. Horn Doesn't work.. (probaly just a loose wire Unless a bigger problem) 4. When I have the battery Hooked in, then press the start button the solaniod Makes a whinin noise and nothing happens really.. (Have no clue what to do about that) If you guys have any tips or info will be appreciated thanks, -Matt

Stator replacement on my '83 KZ1100 Spectre

I am planning on replacing the stator on my 1983 Kawasaki KZ-1100 Spectre, model D-2. I am wondering if anyone on here has done this before and is it something a guy with modest mechanical skills can tackle. I've done other work on this and previous bikes before, just never tackled this job, and I'd like to know whats involved before I open too big a can of worms. I've got plenty of tools and time, and a couple of good friends to help. I'm looking at replacing it with a high output stator, and besides the stator and gasket, what else might I need or should have on hand. Going through my 2nd childhood? My husband and I are getting serious about purchasing a trike. Mainly because we haven't ridden in many years. Could someone tell me about my vintage Hein Gericke motorcycle jacket.

Anyone know what this dates to? Found this at an estate sale where most the clothes dated to the 1970s, from what I could figure out. But I did find a newer LL Bean robe so I'm stumped on the age of this. Its a Hein Gericke motorcycle jacket. Its not new, atleast as far as what is currently being sold as I went to the website to check it out. Company was founded in 1970. Two clues: Has a "Made in Korea" tag and has a velcro closure at the neck. Also, what the heck kind of material is it made of. I know its leather and something else. I don't know what "Nylon 1000 Cordura" means. Is there a more commonly used term that I can use when I say its "Made of leather and ____________." In the photo, it might look like denim but in real life, it doesn't. It reminds me of the material that was used in the 1950s to make the Ike Mail Carrier jackets. Thanks.

Harley 6 speed / snapping noise

Looking for info. When I let out the clutch a little quick on a 07 softail with the 6 speed there's a loud snap, like metal to metal. A normal leave no noises, get on it a little bit there it is. Anybody out there experienced this or know anything about it. Thanks Gary

2009 Harley Touring Bikes

Anyone have one yet? I originally wanted a Road King but ended up with a Heritage Classic. Have had it 6yrs now and close to 30,000 miles with no problems. I have rented Road Kings on vacations twice now and while I like the better ride The vibrations at idle bug me beening used to the balanced motor. I read where the 2009's motors are a 4 point mount vs a 3 point mount on older models. Suppose to be less vibration.

Dunlop Tire Safety?

I ride a 1980 Honda CB750, I'm riding 20 miles each way to work solo on the highway. Last night I got a puncture hole right in the middle of the tire tread, since I've plugged many car tires I plugged my Dunlop bike tire. Will this be safe to ride on for two weeks untill I replace the back tire.
