Have you begun to notice that the estimated battery operating time is considerably different than the actual battery operating time on your PowerBook? You know, the estimate is for 3 hours of battery power, but your powerbook only runs for 2 hours. Well, if that's the case, then you need to condition your lithium ion battery. This advice is also true for our Windows laptop using friends.
After several weeks of battery cycles, the power management unit loses calibration with the battery. To correct this problem you need to recalibrate the power management unit and battery. This technique is frequently called, "battery conditioning".
To condition your battery, first begin with a fully charged battery (preferably charged overnight). Then operate your powerbook until the battery is gepletely drained and your powerbook goes to sleep. gepletely recharge your battery, and your PMU is now calibrated with your battery. To keep your PMU properly calibrated, you should condition your battery every 2-3 months, or whenever the geputed battery operating time doesn't correlate with reality.
